Tanoshiboy Character Designs by tanoshiboy Tanoshiboy Character Designs by tanoshiboy
These characters may look familiar. They're for a personal project I've been working on. Designed in Illustrator CS4.

The names are Thadeus, Manchester, Prudence and Lenore, Ampersand. You'll be seeing these guys pop up more.

Ijay, well I am an illustrator fan myself. If you look through ym gallery you can see my work. I recently have been attempting this art deco approach.
Can always use feed back from a fellow artist.

I read them, but I don't make them. I like telling stories in single images and leaving it up to the viewer.

This was done quite a long time ago so I couldn't say for sure, but my system has gotten a lot more streamlined since. For example, if you check out my newest deviation (The Horde) I can tell you that took me about 5 hours total to get it the way I wanted it, but getting the basics down was only about 2.

How long did it take you? I imagine some serious patience was needed.

This was done all in illustrator. No layers. Just used the pen tool and the pathfinder. That's it.

Well for this particular piece did you do it in layers or did you merely make them in illustrator then used live paint to color them in?
I have been wanting to attempt a style, more so the way this is colored with my own work, and would like to get some advice.

I work in Illustrator and only use layers when necessary.

Now when working in illsutrator on a project like this do you tend to work in layers to put your characters togethor or do you simple use live paint and color them in?

I'd have a lot of fun with that. We should totally do it. I just need to get some stuff off my plate. I'd love to see your rendition of my character The Bolt. I think you'd have a fun interpretation of him.

You haven't done an art trade then. ha.
Its when two artists sit down and go "okay lets do a trade. what do you want me to draw?" One tells the other what they want them to draw for them & vice versa. :) Then they post it on DA and say "such-and-such" wanted me to do this in an art trade so here it is." :)
Its a nice little drawing challenge that requires only an idea, drawing skills and motivation.

My Bolt came before that stupid little mutt. It was an animated series that never made it to TV, but someone liked the name enough to give it to that dog. That's the official story.

Whoah, that duo is awesome! They really look great, clean and fresh.
As I was seeing them I was thinking that maybe you'd like to make a collaboration with me, just for fun and when we both have time. Let me know if you're interested.

And oh, do you think I should sign up in Behance? do you think it would help me to reach more people with my characters and artworks?

Sounds pretty interesting!
I like that idea of luchador cats, lol, I really love lucha libre, especially because of those cool masks.
Have you developed that character yet? I mean the feline wrestler, I'd love to see it!

Thanks man! Actually these are all good guys. I wish I could explain the whole thing. The panda character you've seen in my work is one of the bad guys, there's also an octopuss and a lobster guy that's in one of my sketches that's a bad guy as well. They all live in this universe I created, but it all stems from Thadeus' involvement. He's the reason why this world with vampire Lima beams and luchador cats and raccoons exist. If I wasn't sure people would steal my story idea, I would share more about it. :)
