These characters may look familiar. They're for a personal project I've been working on. Designed in Illustrator CS4.

The names are Thadeus, Manchester, Prudence and Lenore, Ampersand. You'll be seeing these guys pop up more.

Now when working in illsutrator on a project like this do you tend to work in layers to put your characters togethor or do you simple use live paint and color them in?

I work in Illustrator and only use layers when necessary.

Well for this particular piece did you do it in layers or did you merely make them in illustrator then used live paint to color them in?
I have been wanting to attempt a style, more so the way this is colored with my own work, and would like to get some advice.

This was done all in illustrator. No layers. Just used the pen tool and the pathfinder. That's it.

This was done quite a long time ago so I couldn't say for sure, but my system has gotten a lot more streamlined since. For example, if you check out my newest deviation (The Horde) I can tell you that took me about 5 hours total to get it the way I wanted it, but getting the basics down was only about 2.

I read them, but I don't make them. I like telling stories in single images and leaving it up to the viewer.
