Japan Needs Your Help by tanoshiboy Japan Needs Your Help by tanoshiboy
Regardless of what's going on in your life right this moment, you can do something to help someone you will never meet. Sure, there's no glory in that, but there is a sense of helping your fellow man and that's what counts.

Don't forget to donate.

Text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 to the relief efforts via your cell phone bill.

You've probably seen this? I'm not sure how popular it became in the states but this designer guy created this poster to help raise funds for some help japan charity (he took a grand total of 20 minutes to come up with the idea and final print) and it sold a couple of thousand prints within a week, and thousands more and still counting that's all being put towards funding relief for Japan. But anyway, the similarity between your two designs is what hit me. (link to the official poster) [link] I like the concept you have here but personally I'd make the figure a little smaller just to emphasize the 'weight' of the circle, like the saying of a man carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. Really creates an emphasis on just how 'big' the issue is. And since they're about the same size, it's almost like they're both fighting for attention And ahh he kinda looks like he's floating in space. Some shadows perhaps?

Sorry, I'm done critiquing. It can't be said I went three years through design school without picking up some annoyingly critical analysis skills.
Point is, this is really cool that you got this running for the Japan aid efforts. A lot of people wouldnt have the capability to do so.

Actually I envisioned that the figure was actually lifting up the rising sun into the air more than carrying it on his shoulders. But I see what you see and that could work too. I just wanted to create awareness. You never hear about Japan on the news anymore because it's no longer a bleed story. It's old news, but with this kind of artwork floating around it will remind people that tragedies like this have a story after the fact. There are still people without homes and looking for their loved ones. It's just a shame that they have an expiration date. This was created to say that it doesn't. Thanks, darlin. ;)

Ah I didn't mean the figure literally carrying it on its shoulders but more that sort of metaphorical meaning. Sorry. haha. But yeah, that's the thing, despite all possibilities of altering the piece, its the message and purpose that counts. You nailed it :) And I know! Here in sleepy old Western Australia the news has gone quiet on what's happening in Japan with the relief efforts. Like the news stations are just putting it out of mind and that's really shameful. They have no problem following up on how the people of Christchurch, New Zealand are coping almost a year after. -shakes head- The media certainly has an expiration date on what's considered "important news"
No problem my friend ;)

No don't worry. I understood the metaphor.

There's a saying out here in the States that if it bleeds it leads. Sheesh.
